$160 for 5 cups of coffee....

Yanno, I had started a blog about how smooth life has been these last few weeks. How the semester is going so far, the book situation, MiniMe doings  and blah, blah, blah....

Then my mail alerts kept popping up with notices from the bank.  Apparently, JC Penny decided to wait 2 weeks to post a 12 dollar debit. Now I check my balance pretty faithfully and would have sworn TWICE that it had posted, but apparently not. Well, me being the no cash carrier that I am, always stop and get a cup of coffee in the morning.  I knew I had enough for the coffee I had purchased.

apparently not.

Now, what kills me abou this bank in particular is that they will always post the bigger debit first and charge you for the smaller amounts after the first one puts you in the red. If they had debited the coffee charges FIRST I would have only had ONE overdraft fee instead of FIVE.

So thats how I have paid 160 bucks for 5 cups of coffee.  I really don' t think banks are made for poor people who have to live off of their last 10 bucks for a week.

I soooooooo didn't need this distraction right now with me starting a new and what is going to be a rather difficult-cant-have-any-distractions kind of semester and I am trying my best to just LET IT GO AND LET GOD.

  7. WAMU???? I so need to move my account. Now here is the killrer, I have a joint savings that is suppose to automatically transfer money into my checking to keep it from overdrafting. Ya think they will do that?? NOOO Why you ask? Because I opened one account online and one at the bank making the accounts UNABLE to link in that manner. BUT, I can transfer money in and out at my leisure. wtfkindabullshitisdat?

  10. I try to only pull out 20 and somehow or nother, cash disappears on me. then i end up getting out more and by the end of the week, i have withdrawn 60 bucks instead of spending just the 20 bucks in coffee with my card.

  12. I am pissed at myself cuz I spent some money this weekend. Not a whole lot but enough because of what my two week running balance has been and I haven't spent any money except for buy a couple of textbooks and going to by buying MiniMe's clothes for next winter NOW while it was dirt ass cheap. The money I saved (about 200 bucks) is now a loss and I am pissed with myself even more.

  13. what if you got yourself a pre paid visa card.... (like a gift certificate). that way you would still be using a card, but when the cash is gone it's gone ... no overdrafts

  14. I don't carry cash anymore either... I was dying the other day cause I refused to withdraw $20 (plus the fee) to break it for a $.75 soda... I went home with a headache and stopped halfway where I could swipe the card...

I do start monitoring super close when I reach a certain threshold though... cause alI I need is to get gas and forget and BAM... that's my ass, Mr. Postman...

  15. Ughhhhhhhhhhhh That sucks. :(

I just burst a blood vessel (not really, but wanted to) on my books for this semester. I get that I used grant money for it, but it is still a waste, plus if it iwas not used on the books, it would be in my pocket.

    Sighhhh

  19. I have been down this road with WAMU before to no avail. I remember one time, MiniMe's school withdrew 500 bucks without my consent and costed me 300 bucks in overdraft fees. They didn't want to give me my fee money back then and their INITIAL reaction was to tell me to go after the school for it!

  20. You should change ..........and when you do.......set up the automatic draw from savings to checking for overdrafts! I really feel bad and PISSED too for you! Damn big institutions taking money from those who need it the most.

  21. That is what it seems like. It is the poor people who keeps banks galloping in money. When I first had to deal with overdrafts due to deal with excessive overdrafts Due to OVERDRAFT PROTECTION I was TOO THROUGH! Cuz I am using my debit card thinking that it would decline when I spent too much or was out of money. NOT!
